MORE ABOUT LES

Les Ohlhauser began his guitar obsession in December of 1990, when a friend sold him his first guitar so they could start a band (that band was called AARG, which is a terrible name for a band). Instantly entranced by the guitar, Les dove head-first into both learning the songs of others, and writing those of his own (his first song was about how terrible black licorice is, which is an excellent reason to write a song).

Les attended Kirkwood Community College in the late 90s, focusing on music theory, and has also had the pleasure of taking lessons from local luminaries Steve Armstrong and, more recently, Pat Smith.

Speaking of lessons, Les gives them! He has taught hundreds of students over the years, and currently has the pleasure of doing so at Just Make Music in Marion, IA.

As for the stage, Les has played in countless bands. His “day job” has included such acts as Black The Sun, Future Legends, Rhubarb Red, BPM, The Mixtape, and more. He has also performed for Theater Cedar Rapids in Rock of Ages and, coming soon, School of Rock!

His original acts have been numerous and include Detachment, The Bends, Nuclear Biologist Rocket Surgeons, Extreme Leisure, and, most recently, A.L.O.H.A.

In addition Les performs solo acoustic rock shows all over Eastern Iowa. This includes pubs, clubs, weddings, private parties, corporate events, and wherever else you might find someone needing live guitar music.

When not strumming away at the guitar, Les can be found spending time with his family, hiking in the woods, watching Twin Peaks, traveling out of state for a concert, drinking coffee, rooting for the Mets, baking, and assembling jigsaw puzzles.
